Symmetries of colourings of polytopes and extremal surfaces

We will shortly introduce a technique for the construction of geometric manifolds and discuss some of its properties, focusing in particular in the inheritance of isometries that preserve the structure of the construction. We will show how to use these isometries to detect surfaces characterised by a high number of isometries, and comment on some interesting consequences.
